Services - Reverse Engineering
Reverse engineering, what is it?  Reverse engineering is the process of analyzing an existing part and collecting the necessary information to accurately recreate that part.  The information collected can include details describing the physical dimensions, the material from which the part was made, which welding process was used, how the part was heat-treated, finish type, and other forensic information.  Also, if a component has failed, the part usually contains clues that indicate how and why the failure occurred.  Identification of these clues is useful when it becomes necessary to improve the design of the new component.

Typically, race car components are designed to last a single season.  As a result, years of competition can cause critical parts to fatigue and fail, sometimes with unhealthy results.  In order to compete safely for multiple seasons, some components should be redesigned prior to being remanufactured.  Components can quite often be strengthened in ways that are difficult or impossible to detect visually.  Epicenter Design prefers to maintain the original appearance of every part when possible.

After all of the information has been gathered and any design improvements have been made, the next step is to create an electronic model using the latest 3D solid-modeling software.  Once the model has been completed, a mechanical drawing is generated.  This drawing contains all of the information necessary so that the part can be created to meet or exceed the original specifications.
Epicenter Design's reverse engineering service is a benefit to racers because it provides a source for replacement parts that match the original components.  This preserves the original design integrity of the car thereby helping to protect your investment.  We coined the phrase “design preservation” specifically to describe how we apply reverse engineering to vintage race cars.

Have your vintage race car parts reverse engineered free of charge! Here's how it works.  If your parts are not already in our database, we will reverse engineer your parts at our normal hourly rate.  And then every time we make that part for someone else, we pay you back 10% of our profit until you are paid back in full.  After a period of time, you get your parts documented at no cost!  It's free insurance!  Let your racing buddies pay you when they buy their parts.  Contact us today.
